Boot Camp Info
This is a link with a lot of info into the specifics of boot camp.
As I get ever closer to finally shipping out I get slightly more and more frustrated with the fact that I will have waited eight months for this. Sadly there is not much I can do but wait.
My time these past few months has been consumed with work and with DEP, Delayed Entry Program, meetings. The meetings have been fairly dull as they are tailored for 18 year olds who don't know how to read the Navy's web site. I realize that this service is necessary due to the laziness of people in general. However, for those of us who bother to look up things like our pay grade, advancement requirements, and what we have to bring to boot camp don't really have much use for these meeting. Only two more months...
On a side note working for Wal-Mart has further affirmed my choice of joining the Navy and that I will never work in that store for as long as I live.

Reserved Navy
As of September 22 I am officially in the Navy. The Navy Reserves to be exact. This is due to the fact that my deployment day is set for the ridiculously far away date of May 7th. So I am stuck working at Wal-mart for much longer than I would like. Thankfully there is some small hope of me getting shipped out sooner as I am on the list to fill in any drop outs. Meaning that I may get a call saying 'hey you are shipping out in two days, are you ready to go'.
The actual joining wasn't too bad. I got to stay in a mid end hotel in Dallas the night before and they fed us reasonably well. I guess that's to make up for the fact that I would be in the MEPS building for 16 hours the next day. Only a small part of that time was spent doing anything, the rest was spent just waiting and waiting.

ASVAB
I went and took my ASVAB today. Managed to score a 97% on my composite score set, meaning that now the military knows I am smart. I also scored high enough on the sub tests to get me into the nuclear program. So as long as they don't decide to make me take another test because of my lack of upper level maths I am set.
I am still waiting on my high school transcript to get in. Not the one my dad got for me, but the official one that is mailed straight to the Navy office. Hopefully that will be in by Friday and I'll be able to swear in by some time next week. Aside from that I don't really have an official time line for when I get shipped off.

The paperwork
Well I turned in the majority of my paper work yesterday afternoon. Little did I know that I would be trapped there for an hour writing short essay after short essay. I had to write why I wanted to work on nuclear engines, why I dropped a class, why I have a tattoo and so on. It was a bit ridiculous. I don't remember why I dropped class XYZ 3 years ago. All I know is that I thought it was a good idea at the time. Maybe the professor was a pain in the ass, maybe there were no cute girls in the class, who knows maybe the stars told me to do it. Yet they wanted me to write about some unknown event. *sigh* At least that's done and now the waiting game has started for the last few documents to arrive. Sadly they are in the hands on my high school which is a tad frightening as they can prove to be quite dense. Hopefully they will be quick so that I can start round two of the waiting game as I wait for boot camp.

Time to set sail
So I have decided, that after having my teaching livelihood ripped out from under me due to state budget problems, to join the Navy. The new current plan is to join and train to work on nuclear ship engines. Hopefully that plan goes well, but who knows its the military after all.
But first I have this monster of a packet to fill out about my whole life. Maybe I should just upload that to here instead of writing this. At least that would insure that I didn't miss any details. Its taken a few days to get all of the info together just to be able to turn this thing in. At least the beast is nearly finished so I can then move onto the waiting game of deployment.
